LAVA CENTRE INTERACTIVE VOLCANO EXHIBITION IN SOUTH ICELAND

LATEST EARTHQUAKES AND ERUPTIONS

Lava Centre is dedicated to Iceland‘s riveting volcanic activity and its frequent earthquakes.
The centre features an interactive educational exhibition revealing the science and aesthetics of Iceland‘s spectacular geological features. It tells the tales of frequent eruptions, some known to the world others less so. Iceland has on average an eruption every 5 years.

The volcano cinema shows various volcanic eruptions that have occurred in the past century, focusing on the latest eruption where we have high-quality footage of the eruptions.

Lava is one of the largest hubs for visitors in the south of Iceland. It is also a regular stop on the best-ranked tours on the South Coast and acts as a Tourist Information Centre for the region. Lava also has an online tour desk for people interested in tours in the region by Lava certified tour operators.

At Lava there is a magnificent gift shop by Rammagerdin, offering not only souvenirs but also books on geology, Icelandic design and a 66°North store-in-store.

In spring 2022 a new food court will open at Lava. Amazing breakfast, lunch and dinner will be served from various restaurants as well as a grab and go shop for the road.

Lava is the first stop and the main gateway to the region Katla Geopark.
