Social distancing in practice.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic we have taken the only sensible decision to close the exhibition temporarily. Bárður Örn Gunnarsson, Managing Director said: ‘It was not a hard decision to make when taking in account the safety of our staff and visitors. At present we don’t know when we’ll reopen but we will provide updates on our digital channels as soon as we have them.’

‘We’ll still be updating and adding content to our digital channels. We’ll share pictures from the exhibition, from the live Mt. Hekla webcam, the earthquake alerts and the eruption calendar. As always we´ll also post beautiful content related to volcanoes.’

‘We look forward to welcoming our visitors back to the LAVA Centre as soon as this pandemic passes.’

Further information

  • Iceland remains the country with the highest COVID-19 tests per capita.

  • Iceland with its scarce population and boundless space should be the ideal destination post COVID-19.

  • There are currently no confirmed cases of coronavirus among staff.

  • Please contact info@lavacentre.is for further information.
