The volcano exhibition, the new Njal´s Saga Tapestry and Rammagerðin Gift Shop.

LAVA Center in Hvolsvöllur is looking for hosts to greet guests and groups at the LAVA Centre complex.

The complex houses the LAVA Centre volcano- and earthquake exhibition, a beautiful gift shop by Rammagerðin and a small café and “grab and go” shop. This autumn, the new Njal’s Saga Tapestry Exhibition opens.

We want strong and cheerful people for a great workplace. We are looking for people with great knowledge of Iceland’s nature and history. Degrees in disciplines such as geology, biology, history, tourism or a guide certificate is an advantage but not a requirement.

We aim to offer great opportunities to grow and develop, whether it concerns the development of services, guide skills or digital processes such as booking systems, social media, etc.

Job description:

We work on shifts but within normal working hours. Opening hours are between 9 AM and 4 PM every day of the week.

The job involves receiving guests and groups, guiding the exhibitions when needed and selling tickets and gift items. Employees also handle enquiries, bookings and information as well as routine daily tasks, e.g. light cleaning, supervision of the guide’s lounge and ensuring excellent access for guests outside and inside the building.

Competence requirements:

  • Knowledge and or interest in Iceland’s nature, geology and history.
  • Good co-operation skills
  • Good English skills
  • Organizational skills
  • Independence and creativity
